Yes gas is very substantially cheaper as others have shown but, as Pulaski says, you tend to drive further and the mpg is appalling, so the overall savings are less than you might expect.

Real estate and clothes, to name just two are generally cheaper.

That depends on your choice of vehicles - we average around 30mpg US (35mpg UK), which isn't bad considering that includes a V8 Mustang and an F250.

And computers and other electronics, and restaurant meals.

I paid less than $1, as low as 98.9c IIRC, in May-June 1999 (or it might have been Sept 1998), but I was only a visitor back then.

My wife has said before that when she started driving (mid-90s), it was at or below 75c. She can remember it being below 50c growing up.

98 octane gas is only slightly cheaper in the US. I think it's about $4.70 a gallon (most expensive is $6.06) around here. Lower the octane rating, throw in a bit of ethanol and that price comes down quite a bit.

I am not sure what sort of gas you're buying, but the highest grade sold widely on the east coast is 94-94 octane, and it currently costs somewhere around $3 here.

Or are you talking about gas for one of your toys?

100 LL , yes not commonly used in cars here, but readily available all over the country. 94 octane is difficult to buy in the UK. I didn't realize 91 octane in the US is same as 95 octane in the UK.

Well as it has lead in it, putting it in most cars sold in the US over the past 44+ years would be an extraordinarily bad idea!

The measurement systems are different so 98 octane in the USA is not the same as 98 in Europe.

RON is a measurement based on 600rpm.

MON is based on 900rpm

The USA uses the average of the two and most other places use the RON.

Yes, but people seem to use it for boats and other toys.
