It is the head size that is critical. Some people have reported that some US pharmacies have the right software to generate a British PP photo, others just submitted US-size PP photos which were accepted.

After checking the head size, I just cropped US pictures to the UK-specified dimensions. I will find out in a couple of weeks whether they were accepted.

I have got them at Walgreens. They have settings for most passports in the world, but the problem is that the operators often do not know that! You have to insist that they look for the UK setting.

I tried several. Either you're wrong, or Walgreen's staff are incompetent. My bet would be on the latter!

MidAtlantic is correct.

And so are you!

The last time I needed some one Walgreens employee had to call the manager over, who admitted that the machine had a UK setting but claimed it could not be used because they didn't have a license to produce UK passport photos.

Went to a different Walgreens - that was easier than arguing.

I think it does depend on the Walgreens, locally at least, the newer ones, with the newer machines don't have a setting for foreign pics, whilst the other ones day. Though you're probably right, that either way, most of the folks probably wouldn't know either way in the store.

That said, doesn't matter, US passport pic is fine, they'll just resize it digitally, as long as the photo isn't cropped.

I generally talk the Walgreens member of staff through the process, we've done it that many times now...

You'll be charged in pound sterling but whether you use a US or UK credit/debit card is up to you.

If you're using a US card, you might need to alert the issuing bank ahead of using it, otherwise the charge might be declined.

My cc issuer routinely declines all non-US transactions that they weren't warned about either on a case-by-case basis, or during a period I told the issuer I would be overseas in x country(ies).
