Default Passed my driving test today!

In NYC, Redhook test site.

Funny, last lesson was cancelled due to snow just over that one day.

Today, almost drowned in torrential rain.

Test inspector was odd, almost mute and didn’t say which way to go at 4 way junction where straight over was not an option (no entry).

Still, passed and have dried off now. Relief!

I don’t need to do anything right? Think new DMV will just come through the post shortly. Is that correct?

Congratulations! Ridiculously easy, isn’t it. Yes, you’ll get your full license in the mail in about 1-2 weeks.

Very easy. I was still nervous though. I guess because so much depends on those first few turns and manouvers....

Poor guy who went before me, had failed last time. When he got out I asked him how it went, he had failed again. Which added to my anxiety as I got in.

Coupled with the rain, a steamed up car, lakes on the road so couldn’t see the road markings and the weird instructor, well I’m just glad it’s over...

Once I’d done the parking and turn which were sweet, my confidence did start to return. Was all over in a flash, much easier than the U.K.

Probably if I make any comment, it’s a bit insuffient. Can’t help wonder if that’s why so much bad driving around, but it is what it is. Mustn’t grumble

Sounds about right

BTW Where is Redhook? The only Redhook I know is north of Dutchess County.

Don't thing the department of motor vehicle will just come through the post shortly or in the long run.

However, if you were told you passed and given a paper that said so, then the Driver's License will come in the mail in about 3 to 7 working days.

I thought I had failed mine first time around, hit the gas pedal while reversing rather than the break. I had it under control in .1 of a second but I assumed it was like the UK and that would fail me.

Nope. Passed with a 98, they marked off 2 points because I began to slow down too far away from the stop sign!!!

To fail a drivers test in America twice takes a special kind of stupid

Spologies for the bump but wondered if you could recommend a pre-licensing course or driving school provider? I have my learners permit and am planning taking the test shortly. I've been driving in the UK since 2003 so not concerned with the test as much as getting a decent service provider.

yes sure, if you’re local to us this might help.

in Brooklyn I used Cedeno driving school on Grand Street.

Friendly and easy going, best bit was the prelicensing which they did as a fun interactive session rather than hours of boring dull old video

well done! I passed mine a couple of years ago in California. it was a joke! reversing alongside a curb proves nothing!!! it lasted ten minutes and it was over, all in an automatic of course....
which explains the amount of bad drivers out there.

If you’re in or around Westchester County, I highly recommended Adrian’s Driving School. He does the pre-licensing course in Mount Kisco, NY. He also does a package where he’ll book you the test, do an hour lesson beforehand to go over the things they look for such as parallel parking and three-point turns and then drives you to the test site (you’re not allowed to do this yourseff).

I did a similar thing at Cedeno and definitely recommend getting a deal with a car for the test itself, a lesson just before always helps settle you in too.

a) you’ll be familiar with it, which always helps
b) takes the stress out of trying to get a rental, pick up, go to site on time, etc
c) probably cheaper overall too!
