That's true... interest on an account is incredibly tiny here! Found Barclays over here have a savings account which is a little better at a WHOPPING 1.0% (apparently 10 times the average in the US just now)

People always say that like somehow it's the banks' fault, yet rates are set by the Fed, and at the moment the banks can borrow from the Fed at 1%, so it makes no sense to pay more than a fraction of that when they have their branch overheads to pay to service deposit customers. Banks pay only slightly more, 1.1%, to borrow from each other for 12 months, or .4% to borrow for 30 days.
