Default Open a US office of my establish UK company

Hi everyone,

I'm new here

I have a 3 year old business in the UK which recruits teachers for schools.

My dream is to move to the States, but I know the door is hard to open.

I was wondering if I could open an US based office, specialising in helping American, qualified teachers to move to the uk temporarily (for example graduates who would like to experience living and teaching in the uk for as long as a student visa would allow them, a kind of work experience).
This is something regularly done for Canadian and Australian grads.

Anyone know anything about how to go about this and the possible VISA implications for moving myself and family out there?

Any advice or opinions would be most welcome.

Thank you

I am reasonably sure there are many multi national employment agencies.

My first thought is whether the same opportunities are there for US Citizens to work in the UK as Canadians etc.

The devil as always is in the detail, I can think of 3 visa categories that might apply, sounds like you need a chat with your friendly Immigration Lawyer.

Hi Boiler, thank you for the reply.

Im positive you're right - there are many recruitment agencies in the UK who have US offices, albeit not in our particular niche of recruitment, as far as i know.

We'd definitely be able to secure jobs for USA trained teachers, providing they can get UK work permits. That's something I'm sure of, as we already recruit Americans who already live here into these jobs, there's a shortage of teachers in England.

The question is whether opening an office in the States would give me the ability to apply for a Visa for myself (plus wife and child).
It would include the necessity to employ local staff to work for me.

Any recommended immigration lawyers ? I'm assuming mine is a situation they encounter fairly often ?!

Thanks again, Gav

Steven D Heller - US Immigration Lawyer

There are of course others, he is just the one I can remember and who seems to have a good feedback.

I presume you have a rough business plan, size of investment needed, premises, staffing etc.

Sometimes the needs have to be tweaked to meet the requirements of the visa.

It has been a long time since I had any involvement with Teachers, Agencies in that field were not common, no doubt things have changed.

E-1 or L-1A are the most likely possibilities, go with L-1A though because you can actually get a green card. Basically intercompany transferee, you're setting up a new office.
