Plenty of Indian groceries about, grab the brolly, but you won't need it all the time, if the area looks dodgy, don't go there. In saying that I go to Pike's Market and its nothing but dodgy around there.

I have no idea of your budget or personally what the above are like, but doing research into this area we just got an unfurnished apartment and rented furniture for 3 months. It is far far cheaper and furnished apartments are hard to find unless you want to be a roomie.
Try doing the normal apartment search not forgetting to check out reviews http://www.apartmentratings.com/

Re: Moving to Seattle
I would try to avoid Tukwila, not the nicest place in the world, not a whole lot going on there. I go to Tukwila a lot as we have offices there. There are plenty of bus routes from Downtown Seattle to Tukwila (and soon light rail), or it's a 20/25 minute drive from downtown Seattle if you have a car. Renton may be a better option too, lots of apartment buildings there. Also, could you do a longstay hotel until you find your feet?

OH works there and we live outside there.
OP was asking about bad areas, I would avoid white center area and Rainier Drive area (both south of Seattle)

Hi,
Bellingham is too far for me from Tukwila, Tukwila is my place of work, I have just found a place there temporarily.
can anyone suggest a good safe place to live with access to Malls, banks, groceries, cinemas etc and a good bus access to Tukwila?
I am looking at Renton, any suggestions welcome

I don't know what you like or your needs are etc.
I am very fussy, I looked at (well OH did, I never saw my apart. till I moved) http://www.forrent.com/apartment-com...le/1013189.php
as I liked a townhome feel and if you are lucky enough you do get a fantastic view and its a great location at a price! (I ended up in Redmond though so never tried them.)
But the reviews aren't that good. http://www.apartmentratings.com/rate...ashington.html
Renton was stuck with either going to Bellevue (which is quick) for malls or Southcenter mall in Tukwila. But right where the Boeing factory is, there is a new area called
'the landing' where apartments (I don't think they are rental not sure) and some shops and restaurants etc are being built http://www.thelandinginrenton.com/about.php
I'd still go to Southcenter but at least there is something.
A tip - my OH commuted to Tukwila from Redmond and as you were going against the traffic it was clear and only took him 40 mins. So if you didn't like Renton then for a short commute I would suggest living north and commuting down (if you can afford it) rather than living south and commuting north the same distance which takes ages though is a lot cheaper.
Kent has one cool area though small is nice http://www.kentstation.com/Informati...utUs/Index.htm (actually was in the Seattle mag as one of the upcoming places to live)
The thing to look out for around Seattle apparently is car theft and car crimes (I have never had a problem but something to consider when choosing a place)

Re: Moving to Seattle
There are apartments directly across from the bus transit station in Renton, the metropolitan place http://www.forrent.com/apartment-com.../999905222.php
you get a free bus pass with it, would think it would be noisy there. There is another apartment there which I can't remember the name of.
http://www.forrent.com/apartment-com...le/1013083.php
summerhill apartments is on a main bus route beside shops so if you don't have a car.
http://www.forrent.com/apartment-com...le/1012673.php
is on the metro bus route (fairwood apartments) and is opposite food shopping and walking distance to library.
If you are at the embassy suites, these would be both an equal distance away. If you are there and or want more local info and don't want to give to much personal stuff away PM me
The landing in Renton does rent -http://www.thebristol.net/reserve.asp these are brand new and a great area there would be buses there I think but have no idea how frequent or where to.
Though you see plenty of buses around Seattle and surrounding areas they are notorious for not being able to find bus info quickly especially from their web site ie where does a bus go and which is the nearest stop to my house.
BTW do a search for apartments+renton+bus stop you will get a few, I just gave you 3
But when you get here you can look around for yourself as we don't know exactly where you are and the links I gave didn't seem to help much but here is another one.

You would have to do your own research and look at reviews (at the previous link I gave) on these apartments.
