Read Sugarmomma's thread.....very enlightening on what hard work and positive outlooks can do for a life.

Quite right, of anything, but what's that got to do with this thread?

Doom and gloom. It can be said for any country. My goodness if you always worried about the toilet overflowing, how could you leave the bathroom?

And before anyone quotes my post and adds an ostrich.....we all have to live in this world. Its not perfect by any means. If you find the perfect haven, let me know.

Yes, all countries have their issues .. this is one of America's. I'm not sure why being concerned about it is a problem? Or are you suggesting we all bury our heads in the sand?

Its not a problem for me. However, if all you do is worry about the sky falling, isn't that a bit of a problem? Worry is one thing, but what are you doing about it?

Some people like to start flame wars on forums. They find some link that they know will set people off, and then they sit back and enjoy the outcome. This goes on all the time with a certain person, apparently when she gets bored. I would suggest that the OP go and help out in a free clinic.

The problem is that the sky is indeed falling in on America. And this thread touches on some of the reasons it is. And yet we have voters like sunflower-whatever from Kentucky who don't seem to think there's a serious problem. That's reason enough to make it obvious that there is.

Here's a recent 60 Minutes segment about a Brit who is doing some good. It's just a shame that he has to do this at all, it's frankly a bit embarrassing that this sort of thing is even necessary:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/...n3889496.shtml

The BBC has also covered his work:

Of course there are serious problems. I'm very aware of the high cost of everything. The biggest shock of my life was moving back to this country. And while voting in the right government might help things, its the mentality that has to change as well.

Don't agree with the take of the middle class crapping on the poor. The middle class does't have enough energy or wherewithal to do that. Everything the middle class has been taken from them by the governments, federal, state, city and county, and given away to a politican's causes, perks, and special interests. Anything left over goes to the poor. No wonder the middle class lives from paycheck to paycheck.

The ones that haven't fallen off the narrowing ledge yet don't seem to believe there's a problem -- as can be clearly seen in this thread. How would you suggest we enlighten them?
