Just doing a little research
Hey everyone, I am currently studying adult nursing in the UK. When I qualify I am wanting to emigrate to the US. I have visited the US many times and I find I feel more at home in the states than at home and I love the way of life and culture. I am planning on working in the UK for a couple of years to save some funds. I don't have any children or a partner, so I would be moving over on my own. Does anyone have any advice? Such as timescales? Good websites to read up on? Etc, I'm just wanting to start doing some research

You would do well to read the Wiki links at the top of the USA page.
The first thing you will notice is that you can't just decide to emigrate and come over. It's extremely hard to get in, especially in your profession, where there is an abundance of nursing staff available without going through the expense of sponsoring someone from overseas at a cost of several thousand dollars (which wouldn't automatically be a permanent move anyway!).
Why is it you say you prefer the way of life here? Do you have 'real world' experience or have you been here on holiday? If it's the latter, you're in for a serious wake-up call.

Watch out for the nursing agencies that imply they can get you a visa because "any minute now the visa restriction will be lifted". They've been saying that for many, many years.

Re: Just doing a little research
I'm new to this forum so I wasn't aware of the wiki pages but I will read them now. I am aware of the timescale that I could be waiting and I know it isn't any easy process which is why I'm trying to do as much research as possible and speak to people who maybe have emigrated as sometimes google doesn't always bring accurate info up. I have spent 2 months in Jamestown, New York. Although it was technically a vacation, I didn't spend time seeing the sites (as such) I stayed with extremely close friends that emigrated from the states to the UK but then went back to the states. I spent time doing things such as doing the grocery shopping, house work, laundry. I understand I have minimal knowledge which is why I want to do as much research as possible.

No US boyfriends in your two months? That's not a trivial question.
Most of us came over via marriage or an internal job transfer.
To be directly hired when there's already people here with your qualifications and experience is very difficult. Very.
Can you do a Masters? Specialise in something?

What did you prefer about doing the grocery shopping, housework and laundry?

I was desperately missing a huge UK supermarket at the weekend. Five different effing stores to get veg/meat/baking stuff/house stuff, and something for breakfast because I'm forgetful. Could have got the lot in 30 minutes in the UK.
