Default H1B 221(g) Passports retained

Hi All,

I attended H1B interview in melbourne consulate along with my wife and kid.

I have taken all the documentation required for the interview.

They didnot asked me any documentation. They asked me few questions like

Who is your employer?

Why do you want to goto USA?

Who is your employer?

And than issued 221(g) Green slip. Option Selected as Administrative Processing and they retained all of our passports.

I am having genuine experience of 7+ years.

When i read through the instruction of 221(g) it usually takes 6 to 8 weeks.

Anybody is sailing in the same boat like me? Have u heard about this.

When will the consulate generally comes back?

What is the success rate for this kind of scenarios

Please provide some inputs.

Thanks
Sarvesh.N

Are you originally from a Middle Eastern or Muslim country? Do you have an Islamic sounding name? Have you traveled in the Middle East or Islamic countries? These are usually the types of things that trigger AP. It may take 6 to 8 weeks, it may take longer. There is no way of knowing.

No. I am from India. My name not members of my family does not represent like that.
But they kept my passports.
Will they return only when the decision is taken?

I just went through an admin processing at sydney consulate. They kept my passport. got it back after 12 days. i've been readin up a lot on AP, it does seem like the wait time can vary dramatically.

I suggest that if you have any immigration-related questions, you ask them here in the open forum. You should never get immigration-related advice in private except from an immigration attorney.
