If two or more vehicles arrive at the same time, yes. Otherwise it's first to arrive is first to proceed.

Thx for all the information . Does anyone know if they do P plate here?

I want to put it on my car for the safey for my own and the other road user.

I will not go on motor way for a while now . I think I have been traumatised enough so I will stay on the inside road. I still get panic when I m turning left, that's because I feel like I need to go to the left side of the road!!

I will book some driving lessons before driving test which is around the end of the month . ( I hope the driving test don't involve freeway )

No P or L plates in CA.

Some folks do use "Student Driver" stickers. You can buy them online and may find some at an auto parts store like AutoZone.

An alternative is to get a set of Wisconsin plates, then you can drive really ****ing slowly and nobody will think it is out of place.

Look around you at the way other people drive. They are complete dickheads, so the worst you can drive will match you with the locals. You will not be on a motorway for many years, they are freeways here. Just use the Washington State method, pick a lane, stick in it, drive whatever speed you like, preferable 15 miles an hour below the speed limit.

As to merging into gaps in the traffic. The American way is start to move then signal, less opportunity for people to react and shut the gap if there is one. People don't leave gaps between vehicles, but if they need to change lanes they do expect others to let them. Do not chicken out just go for it, once you get used to it you'll be fine. Show weakness and you'll be stuck on the freeway for miles.

And there lies the greatest challenge facing driverless car technology!

Not to worry. It won't

Terrible advice!
(And not rare in Los Angeles)
Do a "rolling stop" on your driving test - and if it's not a guaranteed failure (?) - you'll definitely be docked for it on your score, which - depending on what else you might have done wrong - could contribute toward a failure.

Don't do it!

And here in LA - you're setting yourself up for a ticket when you do
Cops here have "hide-out" posts at specific cross streets near stop signs.
They will patiently lie in wait, invisible to the approaching traffic - until it's too late.
Then, zap, they've nailed you in the act.
Happened to me several times - which finally cured me of the convenient 'rolling stop' habit.

Yeah, but driving in Los Angeles is one very long rolling stop. At least it is for the 70+ miles of the 405 :-(

ha, ha ....yeah, on a good day. And then you comfort yourself with the speed of the 'rolling' between the interminable STOPS.

If used properly, the improvement in traffic flow is very noticeable. The first one they put in my me (at least the first one on a road I use regularly anyway) changed the intersection from one that would have traffic backed up 6-10 cars deep at peak times to a smooth, free flowing junction.

I love roundabouts.
Not every intersection in the UK has a roundabout though, and waiting for a gap in traffic coming from the right on a roundabout can be a challenge when merging from a minor road to a busy main road. Not to mention moving over to the center and back the to the outside to exit.
My wife learned to drive in the US, she will not drive in the UK. Driving in Europe can be daunting for Americans, it's a matter of learning and adapting wherever you are.

I friend of mine had to drive on an LA freeway as part of his driving test, he worked for BMW in Santa Monica and driving was part of his job. He failed his test for not looking over his shoulder when changing lanes, the tester made him change lanes several times, to rack up enough points to points to fail him.

Now that seems very wrong. You look over your shoulder on the freeway while attempting to change lanes and you are traveling at 60 or above and take your eyes off the road in front of you? I find this difficult to believe. The only time in NYS you are advised to look over your shoulder is when you are pulling out of a parking space and when you are making a U turn or a K turn.
