Hi all, I move out to LA in 2 weeks and I'm getting everything in order but I had a question about Class 2 NICs, can I forget about this for a few month to see if I settle in the states and then request to pay the voluntary contirbutions or will that become a gap that harms me? I'm 34 and have over 10 years of contributions so far.

You can back pay up to 6 years at the moment, but beware, that class of contributions is due to disappear in April 2017, an you will then need to pay the more expensive class 3.

Yes. Like Mike said, I paid six years in arrears.

Thanks guys, I'll give it until January and if I'm settled there then I'll contact the right people about it. One less thing to worry about right now...

I thought class 2s in the UK were going in 2018, not 2017, and has it actually been announced what the deal for ex-pats will be yet?

Maybe the expats will be excommunicated once article 50 is invoked. "you leave, you're on your own". Or we will find out in 2019.
