NARA Park, in Acton are doing a series of free skate nights on Friday. Have to bring your own skates, but it's a nice park.

There's supposed to be music and food.

MA Audubon have a deal at the moment that family membership for the year is half price, so $32 till the end of June I think it is.

That's one entrance to Drumlin Farm for a family of 4 and a few other locations.

Most handy about the membership though, it includes free parking at most/all their sites and there are quite a few around the Cape, so that's a fair bit of savings if you're planning to hit the sites down there over the holidays.

I just renewed my Texas State Parks pass for another year. $70 for family membership, giving free entry to all the parks for basically as many folk as you can fit in a car. We always get great value out of it.

Water Parks, Splash Pads and More Massachusetts

Not a bad list of splash pads and water parks in the MA area.

The one in Worcester is surprisingly nice. Parking sucks a bit though, but it's much larger than most of the other nice ones that are around.

Cruise Night | Kimball Farm

Out in Lancaster, MA Free entry on the cruise nights every Friday. It's on Wednesday in Jeffrey, NH.

I don't know about the NH town, but Lancaster, is a really nice little country town. Also not to far from Bolton, with the Nashoba Winery, which has a lovely picnic spot and they brew beer, very well priced growlers.

Another thing, part of the EAA Young Eagles, but every second Saturday of the month between 8am-12pm kids can fly around free at the Stow airport. Supposed to be between 8-17 years old, but they're pretty flexible if they're not to busy. They use one of the small 4 seater's that they use for their flight classes.

Austin has free outdoor cinema and music courtesy of Alamo cinema. Bring a blanket, beach chair and a picnic and listen to live music as the sun goes down, then the film starts when it's dark.. Great setting on the south side of Lake Austin so you can watch the city skyline as it lights up.

Trucks with beer and food there too.

Zube park (just north of 99/290 intersection) offers free trainrides on the 3rd Saturday of every month from March to November. The Houston Area Live Steamers (hals.org for photos) which seems to be mainly made up of retired railroad guys with a bunch of stories, run the trains for free (but donations accepted). They have a 1000 yard track with about a 6" or 7" gauge, and run steam trains pulling sit-on carriages. We haven't been for a few years, but was a regular when the boys were in their "i want to be a train driver" years, and combined with a picnic and a bit of kite flying made for a good run out. It was also the first place I actually saw a wild armadillo with a better profile than a pancake

For the Boston area folks. A commonwealth get together for Christmas out in Brighton.

There's also a Boxing Day get together in North Andover, but that's $25 cover charge at an estate home.

Bit last minute but for high schoolers MIT does a Splash weekend with loads of courses. It's $40 for the weekend and starts this Saturday.
https://esp.mit.edu/learn/Splash/index.html

They call it 'A bunch of short classes on a huge variety of cool topics', here's the class catalogue showing which classes still have space. Minikins has gone for a load of maths courses because she's a bit of a geek.
