As well as the dollar limits on each part of the policy. The phrase "full coverage" doesn't mean anything in the US.

All of the above will determine what you pay in premiums.
Aye....helps to rant though when the rates are really shit.

Off street parking does get a big discount over here though, followed by having traction control, ABS and then airbags, alarms, immobilisers and seatbelts.

Still, living in a similar type of neighbourhood to where we were in Maine, the rate here is double of what we were paying up there, and the rate did actually go down year on year in Maine when we were there compared to down in Mass.

It does to my insurance agent, he called it full coverage. We used to have Full coverage when we had car payments, then dropped it when the cars got older and paid off.

Tell me about it, Cin. We are on a street bordering a major parkway and as such we are a hard hit auto theft area and as a result our premiums skyrocket out of control. At the present we pay $1200 every six months for one 2005 auto and one 2007 truck. Perhaps that is one of the reasons why I laugh when someone bellyaches about being forced to pay a premium of $400 every six month for an auto.

You can laugh if you want. But you choose to live where you live.

I choose to live at the end of a private road, in a small town, with low crime. So excuse me for bellyaching.

That's about what we pay for the same year vehicles (although not same vehicles, obviously) and while I budget for it, it doesn't make me happy.

I have 25/50/25 live in a Cul-de-Sac in CA and drive about 40,000 miles a year, with AAA $87 per month for a 08 Dodge Nitro I think thats kinda cheap!

Geico wanted $165 a month and State Farm was around the same.

We're using progressive, and pay $81/month for fully comp on a '08 Mazda 5 and a '03 VW Passat. I forget exact coverage, but it's about the mid-point between state min and a ridiculous amount.

That also incs rental car coverage and breakdown service (which we've used once).

That covers my wife and I.

We're in Mass and they recently changed some laws which have brought the big guns into the state which certainly helped get my costs down.

When I first moved here in '01 (I was 21 at the time), I was paying $250/month for just myself on a Ford Escort, 3rd party, no frills And that was also with Progressive.

Not happy about it either but then I was raised here and have lived here all my life so very very use to the higher costs of living in the area as opposed to non-metropolitan living areas. I suppose percentage wise I pay premiums which I can obviously afford due to wage structure of my living area. I'm sure once my husband moves out to backwater rural SC next year, my auto insurance costs will decrease drastically.

They way auto insurance is priced is also down to your credit score too. They look at how often someone with the same credit score as yoursellf has a crash. Im with Geico we did have a 94 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sierra that was $50 a month to insure on liabilty. We now have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt which is $150 a month for full coverage. My wife has only had her own insurance for 18 months so yeah tis a bit pricey and it was cheaper to have me as the main driver although I have a permit still. I never drove in England.

$81 a month try paying $2801 a year on a 06 subaru - i live in mass as well - so much for competition my insurance went up $400 dollars this year - i tried metlife which gives me a company discount and it was $2 dearer, my friends in the uk laugh when i tell them how much i pay they think its ridiculous.

I guess you have no explanation for how Progressive just knocked $100 off my quote then.....when I pressed them on the phone and told them I'd go elsewhere.

At least I got a result....almost 25% off. Seems like you have to threaten to leave your insurer before they re-evaluate their risk-assesment of you and give you a better deal.
