Default Car Insurance Porsche 911

Hi,

I have recently recieved my SSN and am looking to buy the obove mentioned car, have been searching for insurance and my best so far is $480 a month from progressive.

I have had a clean drivers licence in UK for 13 years, does anybody know of an insurance company which will look at your UK record, rather than treating you as a new driver?

Much appreciated as i think even $480 a month is excessive!

Thankyou

Richard

They don't count your good driving in the UK, so far as they are concerned you are a new driver. Maybe you could aim a little lower in the car department for a couple of years till the rates drop for you.

You might be able to lower it quite a bit by adding and subtracting things from your policy. For instance, where it says "Type of vehicle insured" delete "Porsche 911" and add "Toyota Prius".

If you can afford the motor, you can afford the insurance and if you can't afford the insurance, you can't afford the motor.

You might be able to knock a couple bucks off here and there by going liability only and going with state minimums depending on where you live, but you'd be mental doing that for that kind of motor.

Find a local insurance broker. Let him do the leg work and find you a reasonable (for a sports car) policy.

Your UK driving means squat to them all - you are the same to them as someone who got their first drivers license yesterday.

If you find a broker who handles many things, such as your house, life, boat, airplane etc and move all your policies to them, they might cut you a discount on the car insurance.

If it is an older car, say not worth more than $10k or so, you can 'self-insure' the car and just get the liability insurance. No sense paying $5,000 to insure a car that is worth only a bit more than that.
