I don't live near a Walgreens or CVS so can't use their services.
Might as well send trimmed and untrimmed. Besides, what are you going to do with them if you keep them?

Just checked the status of my application - passport dispatched (it only arrived in the UK on Monday - 4 days ago!) I sent both the trimmed and untrimmed photos, so I guess one of those combinations worked!

The biggest problem I have is finding another UK person to sign the photos.

From the USA you don't always need a counter signatory and it doesn't have to be another UK person.

I asked an American friend whose job was not on the approved list to sign our latest application and it went through with no problems. You just need a scan of the info page on their passport.

If you a recognizable from your previous PP photo...it doesn't need counter signing. I haven't had a PP photo counter signed in decades.

But it doesn't have to be by a UK person.

It was my understanding that it is preferred, but it can be a USC from what I understand. Then you need to send copies of passport if they have one. Whereas a UK person just enters their passport number.

Can anyone comment on the background color issue? My Walgreens has a UK setting, but I'm concerned they only have a white background. Can anyone confirm they used WAlgreens with a white background and it was OK?

Yup, just renewed mine with Walgreens photos cut to UK size but on a white background and there was no problem at all.

I just did my kids passports and used Walgreens. They used their UK template but would not cut. I just sent them uncut (the actual dimensions were to the UK spec) and they were accepted fine.
