Hi all,

I did a little research and was able to find old posts regarding this topic. I wanted to know what the current advice was now regarding funds transfer from UK to USA?

I read about xe.com but then read that they were purchased by western union and weren't the best option anymore. Any suggestions or advice?

I use xe, they are as good as the others as far as I can tell. There is no actual interaction with Western Union. The upside to XE is that they are licensed in all states. Some of the others may not be licensed in all states.

Another vote for xe, funds have only ever taken a day to get to the US.

I have used the new boys on the block 'TransferWise' and saved a great deal compared with other FX's. Also they seem to be able to avoid 'reception fees' as charged by some banks. My last transfer was for $7000 and was fixed before the recent decline in rates. They are a little slow but if you aren't in a hurry...

I second TransferWise. I've been using them for over a year now to avoid fees at both ends. Normally UK to US transfers take around 2-3 working days.

You need to ensure that you use an exchanger/remitter that makes the credit by "ACH" aka "direct deposit". xe.com offers a choice of ACH or wire, but unfortunately gives little or no guidance on which to choose. If you choose "credit by wire" you are likely to be dinged by you bank with a fee for "receiving the wire". I use xe.com, but I have never been charged a fee to receive the funds.

Thanks for this thread. Have just used TransferWise for the first time. Great interface. I might retract this statement if my moolah doesn't turn up next week

Another vote for Transferwise. They ballsed up once but then gave me free transfers for life so I can't complain.

I just used Xe to transfer money to my UK bank by ACH and it took seven days from making the trade to receiving email to say trade had been made and then informed me that it may be seven days before it would reach nominated UK account, have yet to check when account was actually debited here in the US.

Just tested transferwise after using xe.com many times. Got to say transferwise is excellent with good rates, highly recommended
