When we first had to get auto insurance we did not have US licences. We were insured and given the quote based on the condition that we gained Californian licences within 30 days.

Finally got myself insured!!!! :)

Went to the state farm website, bit drawn-out, so got an agent to call me, so I could explain my situation, spoke to a lovely girl, got a result!!!

$1093 for me and the wife (still sounds strange saying that, only got married on saturday!!)

thats $1000 less than best quote i had previously got!

So only advice i can offer is keep looking! :)

I dont know if this is still true but about 8 years ago when i first needed insurance.. an "international license" helped lower the cost a little.. and i got it online for like 20 bucks or something.

it's a permit, not a license, and it's only any good for if your license aint' in English, or doesn't have a photo on it, and it won't make any difference to insurance cost.
