Yes, but unlike Mexico -- Canada and the US TOGETHER patrol the border, and arrest smugglers, illegals they encounter. They both share surveillance duties so niehter side overlaps any vulnerabilities.
In mexico -- the mexican authorities could give a rat's ass about smugglers openly advertising in markets, or driving up to the border and planning their operation.
Mexico could stop most of illegal immigration themselves by busting the coyotes and arresting people who try to sneak in.

Let us not forget airplanes and those pesky space ships. Oh, and remember
that in the USA you have a few kooks who want to do innocent US residents
in - an example is just after 9/11 there was the nut-case on the Greyhound
bus who slashed the bus driver's throat while the bus was going down some
highway, and...
Yup, fact is the US border has to be checked by US border types. They do a
pretty good job right now. In fact, from the words of Mr. Ashcroft
himself, none of the 9/11 terrorists came from Canada - they ALL entered
directly into the USA from offshore.
By the way, what does this URL link and this thread have to do with
immigration into the USA? Are you saying that US authorities are not doing
their jobs in "envigilating the US border"?

Close the borders! Seal the ports! Make sure to set up undersea nets so that suicide manatees with weapons of mass destruction can't get into Florida! Blow'em out of the water! That'll show those pesky manatees who's boss!
