Working while waiting for green card

Re: Working while waiting for green card
Shouldn't you have done all this and also researched on your own before you even planned the wedding? Sounds like you have made things way more complicated than they needed to be and just took other peoples word about it. You have to be your own lawyer and know the ins and outs of everything that pertains to your immigration process. If you use a lawyer they should be used for their experience and in addition to what you know, not a replacement.

I guess Ive been spoiled in the past went to Australia got there on a Thursday started work the following Monday, worked for a full year, immigration sent me a letter and asked if I would like to stay for another 2 years.
Went to Holland got my social security number literally within 5 minutes of showing my Brit passport.

Unfortunately, the US does not encourage immigration. Our immigration laws are designed to keep people out, not let them in.
Thus, it is on your shoulders to be your own advocate and ensure you understand the process involved to allow you to legally live here. I know it's tough to swallow, but the US gov't doesn't really care if you can't live with your spouse here in the US, so there is no special expediated service or treatment for you.
The process is what it is, and now that you have found a place to come to for information, hopefully we can help you understand more about it, and reduce some of those frustrations.
Seeing as how Australia is a commonwealth (or ex-colony or whatever it's called) of Britain, it makes it easier for you to work/live there, and being a member of the EU gives you the ability to go to The Netherlands. There is no such connection with the US/UK.

Actually, unless he was a citizen of Australia, he could not work or live there without a proper visa. Seems like he entered Australia on a residential visa or some equalivent type visa.

You may want to check your Local Office processing dates for I-485; it could very well be that your Adjustment of Status interview is coming up shortly.
From here forward, I encourage you to learn about the immigration process you are going through; there are more steps coming up in your future and the only one responsible for the outcome is you. Unfortunately, hiring a lawyer doesn't always cover you, but you can easily learn about what you're doing and keep an eye on your own cases.
You should also keep a photocopy of *every*thing you ever submit to USCIS et al.

uscis.gov. My case is pending > Processing Times & Case Status > Case Status Online. You can go directly to case status online but in your situation it's probably beneficial to have a look round while getting there.

Google --- USCIS
That is the official website. If you have your case number you can check your status.
It is also where you will fine the timelines for the various processing for your district office.

That would be very helpful, do you have the web address?

Here's where you can look up by District/Local Office. Make sure you know which is your DO by zip code here.

Re: Working while waiting for green card
Ok so my wife rang the lawyer and he posted my forms to immigration on the 12th of October ( the lawyer says I will recieve a confirmation letter from immigration, that they have my paper work).
It is now the 25th of November and have not had a confirmation letter from immigration to say they have received my papers. Is this a normal time to wait? How long is it usual for a confirmation from Immigration?

Have you been here since March on the VWP? If not, when did you arrive?
Sounds like perhaps you now have an overstay. If so, I believe you should not use advance parole.
