Want to go to Mexico but lost GC
Wifey wants to drive to Mexico tomorrow - neighbours invited us. However, she lost her GC a few months ago. We have an I-90 in the works and have a receipt that shows we've applied for it. We have photocopies of both sides of the GC. The GC, had it not been lost, is well within date (another 4 years). She also has her original I-551 entry stamp in her passport.
Travel or not? If it's a bad idea, likely to take hours on re-entry, or worse, then we won't bother.

If the I-551 stamp is current, then fine. If it is expired, stay in the US and get your tacos in California. I would not travel only with a photocopy of a lost card. She never reported it stolen, not lost, nor has she applied for a replacement.
PS she never went to the Field Office and asked for another I-551 stamp did she?

She did apply for a replacement (I-90). The I-551 stamp is expired. Tomorrow was a last minute idea but no problem if she can't go. We do intend to travel in a few months and will be better prepared for that.

I would not go. For future travel, make an Infopass appointment to get a new I-551 stamp.

Thanks both. We'll stay home and get that infopass appointment soon.
