Default Using a Lawyer for EAD application

Hi,

I have now been approved for an L2 spouse. I want to submit my application ASAP when i arrive in the US.

I have been quoted $500 (plus USCUS fees) for a lawyer to complete my application.

it seems pretty easy to complete, are there any benefits to using a lawyer? is it necessary?

many thanks

It is easy to complete and not necessary to have a lawyer.

Absolutely no reason to retain the services of an immigration attorney to complete the EAD application.

If it got any easier to complete, your house pet would be able to do it for you.

It is literally a page or so long, it's easy.

The hardest bit, is working out which category of EAD you are applying for, but the instructions spell it out.

Although FYI, for an L2 spouse, it's (a)(18)...

The quoted fee strikes this lawyer as being on the high side assuming it is ancillary to an existing file, e.g. the underlying L-1 petition/visa.

Is a lawyer "necessary?" Absent some unusual circumstance, probably not. But no way of telling here in an internet forum.

Advantages to having a lawyer? Dual records and tracking. If the family is looking forward to LPR status, it is a good idea for the lawyer, if any, to have a unified file. I've seen some pretty bad stuff happen due to applications outside of the file.

Choice belongs to the potential client.
