Or, try http://ailalawyer.com/. You don't need to be able to meet the lawyer -- email, fax phone is fine. But the lawyer DOES need to be experienced in abandonment issues.

thanks again! He won't be available until Wednesday though.. Are there other lawyers that I can contact? I should probably contact more than one anyways. I contacted an immigration lawyer just now and she told me my only options were green card either by employment or diversity. I'm not settling with this just yet. :P

You do not seem to realise that PR abandonment issues represent a highly specialised field of immigration law. Don't expect just any attorney to be able to help you - you need someone who specalises in ABANDONMENT issues.

You're not settling for that, yet? You seem to be living in cloud cuckoo land.

No there is no rush, I just wanted to contact more than just one lawyer, to see if I got different answers or not.
And yes, Elvira I am talking about lawyers specialized in abandonment.

you do understand this is not just something they are going to look up in a list. they are going to have to gather a lot of detail (which you seem to be considering quite trivial so chances are you will have to go find out the real detail from your parents records etc)- including any documementation you have, examine it, ask more questions, and then make a judgement as to whether or not its worth your time (and money ) to pursue it. they will be working for you. its not a flip decision they will give over the phone.
they will also need paying for thier time - so if i was you i would lay my hands on every piece of documentation you can find from your parents and be well versant in it - so you can give fast and accurate and specific answers to the lawyers questions and cut down the time it takes him to do his job.

Sorry for not replying for such a long while. I've kind of forgot about the situation.
Anyhow, I've started researching a bit. I've got an appointment with a attorney tomorrow for free consultation to let her listen to what I have to say and hopefully get some information out of that.
Here is some information I've gathered by myself:
Immigrant visa and alien registration occurred : 30 December 1991.
We left the US in 1997.
My fathers Green Card has not expired yet but is probably not usable since he has failed to reach the requirements (not being in the US every 6 months).
I never received my own Green Card / LPR card of any sort because I was a minor.
The case I could go for in my opinion would be to reclaim my LPR based on the fact that I was a minor at the time and that I did not have intention to leave the US.
As Folinsky said previously this is a grey area of the law. This case probably will be expensive, and most likely will fail. I will need a consultation with a lawyer to find out more regarding this.
Please let me know if there is something you guys notice or think about that can help me in any way.
Regards
Ian

If your father's green card is not usable, it means he has failed to make the USA his permanent home, failed to keep ties showing he lives there, and failed to get a re-entry permit if he was planning to be out of the USA longer than a year.

I know how it works. It shouldn't be easy to obtain a dual citizenship so to speak. Does anyone know if it's possible to keep the US citizenship when you've gained it thru naturalization?
