Default travelling to US - any issues at the clearance

Hi,
This site has been very informative.
Pls answer this query.

This is my first time travel to US and I am leaviing to US shortly on
H1 visa with the validity period up to 2008.
These are my travel details.
HYD->MUMBAI->CHICAGO->(AIR INDIA)
CHICAGO ->RDU(United Airlines).

My questions....

1.Can you please tell me where will be the actual immigration clearance
-Chicago/RDU.

2.My place of emplyement is Richmond? Will this create any problems at
the immigration clearance as I have a flight to chicago and then
RDU.Will immigration create any problems for me .

3.What documents should one take / can be asked at the immigration
clearnace.Please list out.

4.Do I require a transit visa ?

Please clarify.

Thanks in Advance

In addition to what RT has mentioned, be sure you know the address at
which you will staying, the person who will pick you up, have enough
information about the company at which you will be working and what
kind of work you will be doing.

Hi

Thanks for the replies you gave me.I need further assistance.
When I contacted the travel agent off,he said the flight will stop at
frankfurt for fuel for 4 hrs and I will travel in the same flight
number.
the routing of my flight will be

hyd -> mumbai->frankfurt->chicago->RDU

As the main immigration clearance will be Chicago ,will I be asked for
a transit visa at frankfurt?
On what conditions a transit visa can be asked ?
Will stopping a flight at frankfurt will create any problems for me as
I do n ot have a transit visa?
I have a passport valid upto 2011 and visa validity upto 2008.

This is just to make sure safe and clear before I leave.
thanks for the reply.

The German rules are actually fairly convoluted:

http://www.germanembassy-india.org/e...a/transit.html

As you see, Germany often does require a transit visa; but,
fortunately for you, since you have a valid US entry visa, you won't
need a German transit visa for passing through a German airport.

I see that you already got excellent answers to most of your question. For
this one, though, I'd like to add one caveat. Usually, you indeed won't
have a problem. But I have heard of a few rare cases - and several years
ago - where immigration officers complained about an "illogical" routing of
a flight. Basically, you are flying west from Frankfurt, and then back east
to Richmond. There have been a few rare cases where the officer didn't
believe that Richmond was the real destination, and expected the passenger
to travel through, say, New York, Philadelphia, DC, Atlanta or some other
more "logical" airport.

Now don't panic about this. As far as I know, these were very few cases, and
a long time ago. I only mention it so that IF the officer brings up
something like that, you don't get taken by surprise. My guess is that you
can get past this kind of problem by telling them that the airfare was
cheaper this way, or the airline didn't have a convenient flight to a
different city, or something like that (whichever the actual reason for
your routing is).
