If I was in practice and OP was consulting with me, I would insist on an in person consultation to figure out strategy.

Furthermore deponent sayeth not other than to wish OP and her beloved all the best.

Thank you so very kindly. Yes = STRATEGY! We are trying to prepare and educate ourselves as if we were NASA making a journey to outer space.

And thank you to everyone else responding. It is comforting and reassuring. We'll be sure to update as we make these very difficult decisions.

You have the I 601 planned?

K1 takes several months less than a CR1 and of course you can file earlier.

You are hoping to spend the rest of your lives together. I think you should be able to manage to spend a few months apart. Your relationship will be stronger for it.

What a load of cobblers. The max stay is up to 6 months on a B-2 with the option to apply to extend that for a further 6 months.

I'm constrained to point out that "efficiency" is not a word that's too familiar to US immigration. You may not want to waste time but, quite frankly, the US has no interest in what you want. It will take as long as it takes. Good luck though... I hope it works out for you both.

Yes, that is a reoccurring thread we've noticed reading through countless stories of people similar to us. It seems like there's a choice between having what we want (each other, romantic wedding, etc.) and the kind of cold hearted visa restrictions forced upon us by the good ol US of A.

Nice that Obama just granted amnesty for over 5 million illegal immigrants!!!! ...but it's going to take 8-12 months of tedious paperwork, scrutiny, and interviews for 1 man to come live with his WIFE!!!

if you want cold hearted bureaucracy then you might want to try familiarizing yourself with the requirements for non EU spouses moving to the UK.

count yourself lucky that you aren't being forced to live in a third country for how ever many months before the US will let you in.
