Is it possible for a British 18 year old to move to the USA?

Maybe you're right. I was only going on what he said. ...... Of course many of the longest, and best, threads have been built on such uncertainties and the possible meanings of incomplete and/or ambiguous postings.

It is worth considering that in Canada, students can bring their "common law" partners with them, and they are granted a work permit (unlike F2 holders in the US). So if your girlfriend isn't set in stone about the US and considers Canada for medical school, you could go with her- provided you have proof of being together for at least one year. Proof includes joint bank statements, rental agreement etc. Just to let you know, it isn't any easier to immigrate to the US from Canada (from personal experience). Alternatively, if you want to get into Canada and then visit your girlfriend in the US (much easier than flying over from the UK), you can consider the UK-Canada work permit: International Experience Canada – travel and work in Canada
Good luck!

I think that's an accurate assessment, yes. To be honest I am desperate because the love of my life (it mightn't seem like much coming from an 18 year old but I've known her for a year already and yes, I am in love) is moving there to study Medicine. Aside from that I had kind of been interested in the States but not to this degree. Frankly I just really don't want to have to break up with my girlfriend. But thank you for the reply, I guess you're right.
Then it appears that she is OK with moving away and getting on with her life and obtaining an education. Perhaps you should do the same, and see how things look in a few years? Being on different continents does not mean you have to break up if you are both as madly in love as you say.

Myself and my fiancée had a long distance relationship throughout her college life. Around five years in total.
In some ways it did help as it allowed her to have space to concentrate and study and then we catched up on an evening. I was able to progress my career.
We'd visit twice a year and cherished those moments.
Medical school will be high intensity and high workload. My fiancée went to nursing school and trust me that is no walk in the park. Some similar classes in the USA - pharmacology etc.
If she does remain in the US then there are options open to you and of course there are if she returns to the UK.
Living apart may be the thing that allows you two to stay together.

You can study pretty much for ever, I have seen people who have been in the US for 10 years studying.
And still do your martial arts.

Not really. So the new way your sentence reads would be: I was 17 when I came to the USA. I decided and came over after completing the medical and sponsor thing.
still not sure what a "sponsor thing" is. What exact visa did you get? Usually only family- based immigrant visas require a medical. If this is what you did, it doesn't apply to the OP because he doesn't have US based family to sponsor him.

You were required to have a sponsor in the US to support you if needed financially.
You were required to have a medical also. I remember having to carry my big ex-ray (20x20) film to the consulate in Liverpool.

Things may have been different (an understatement I know) in 1955.
