Default Passport Expiration

My step-son's NVC case is completed as of June 13th and now we are in the queue for a medical and embassy interview appointment.

His passport expires Mid December 2016. I am questioning whether I have his mom renew his passport now? Will this effect his documentation with the Embassy?

Any experience or advice on this matter?

On a positive note, the NVC seems to be back on top of their game. Affidavit of support docs received on 5th May - completed 13th June

Renewing his passport will make no difference whatsoever... because he's still the same person.

Plus it is far easier to renew the passport in UK then it is to do so from the US.

Does he need 6 months validity in order to use it, with an immigrant visa? Just wondering.

Agreed. Thank you.

Now motivating his Mother to actually do something. That is a whole different challenge

Yes, I know with the ESTA you need 6mo validity, great question.

The Answer from the horse's mouth:

"Passport – For each applicant, an unexpired passport with at least eight months validity from the date on which the visa is issued."

southernspeed is an unknown quantity at this point

Not sure if this applies to all visas but my I-94 and my wife's are time limited to expiration date of her passport (next year) despite the visas being valid for 5 years. This also effects driving license duration too. She needs to get a new passport next year then we have to renew our driving licenses and update the I-94. It would be much easier to come in with a new passport!
