Never Let it be Said

Yeah, going to the embassy is not the hard part in most cases. I know you can do certain things on your own, I did my K-1, AOS, advance parole, EAD (when they were separate), renewal of EAD, removal of conditions and citizenship on my own, paperwork, embassy, USCIS office, the whole 9 yards, a lot of people do. That is the only visa I can think of you could do that on with relative ease. I would place a bet that your friend did not do everything himself for his visa.

If you re-read my post, I did say that you seem very wound up for someone who was NOT wronged.. but now I'm getting worried about you. Fortunately, you have the good Canadian health care so if you do pop a vessel, you can be seen at the hospital. (that's a joke, see.. I have to stay calm because I can't afford US healthcare!)

He can't do it all because HE doesn't apply for that type of visa. If he did somehow do it on his own, it would have been pretty cheap because the filing fee is not huge. It sounds like you are missing a large part of the story.

What kind of help do the people who want to move to the US from Scotland (like me), Wales and N. Ireland get? Is it only the people from England that are getting rude responses?

Re: Never Let it be Said
Several of us on this thread spend most of our time geeking around the immigration topic. The US immigration topic. We base our comments on much more than one second hand experience.
Now, I appreciate that you would like to do your deal yourself. And if it is a DV Lottery win, you are right, you can complete that without a lawyer. But if you start getting into open ended questions, then a person would be foolish to not explore their options with a lawyer, and most will need legal assistance throughout.
It's Just The Way Things Are.
Family based cases, those can DIY (I did mine), TN for Canadian citizens? Yeah, they can find the info online and DIY, but most everything else simply does require a lawyer wedged in there somewhere.
Not an advisor, not a sketchy website, a real lawyer.
You're not going to convince me otherwise and I'm afraid the majority is with me on this. The US is not the same as Canada (much to the Canadians relief!).
