you've not mentioned the taxable consequences of the win.
is the 500,000 pounds, gross or net.
it makes a big deifference to be honest on the possibilities.

Plausible? Sure. However, there's a LOT more to it than having a pile of money. Once your mate gets his payout he should visit a couple of the best immigration lawyers in the UK (he'll certainly be able to afford it!) and get some real, legal advice about how realistic his chances are.

sounds like a good excuse to become a 'tax nomad', at least for a while and go round the world a bit.

Hi:
An "EB-5" might be up his alley. Also, there are "regional centers" where he doesn't have to actually manage the thing.
There is also the "E-2" non-immigrant visa. Somehow, it has become an article of faith among many people in this forum that it is an awful visa. It depends upon the circumstances and desires of the alien.
I really do think a legal consultation with a US immigration lawyer is in order. There are several excellent ones in London.

If he is thinking of putting his feet up for a while, nope. Not enough.
I he has a business idea, maybe.

£500,000 = $1,000.000.00, give or take the exchange rate. To get a million dollars here you probably need to win at least $2 mill or close to. Maybe more.
