Mexico's Fox says his country will work to make Bush immigration proposal a
reality

Saturday, January 17, 2004

(01-17) 14:55 PST MEXICO CITY (AP) --

Mexico will work closely with U.S. President George W. Bush and do all it
can to help his proposal to overhaul American immigration policies become a
reality, President Vicente Fox said Saturday.

During his weekly radio address, the president said the Bush plan would help
millions of undocumented Mexicans living and working in the United States
"obtain legal status and proper documentation."

"They could emerge from the shadows, retain their workers' rights and be
totally respected once this proposal is approved," Fox said.

This month, Bush announced the proposal, which would extend temporary legal
status to undocumented immigrants in the United States as well as would-be
migrants with jobs already lined up in America. Mexicans in the United
States illegally are expected to be the new plan's biggest beneficiaries,
though the initiative still must be approved by the U.S. Congress.

Fox's Foreign Secretary, Luis Ernesto Derbez, has suggested that this
country will lobby members of the U.S. Congress to ensure the Bush plan is
approved quickly.

On Saturday, Fox stopped short of saying his administration will work to
sway lawmakers in Washington, saying only "we are supporting (the proposal)
as it advances, moving forward until it is finally approved."

"Of course, we are also maintaining the position we have always had, which
is to protect the rights of our countrymen and countrywomen there in the
United States, to be on their side and to work together with them to improve
the well-being of their families."

Fox said a component of the Bush plan that excited him most is it would
allow millions of now undocumented workers to come home to see their
families in Mexico without having to risk their lives to sneak back into the
United States.

"This changes the lives, not only of the between four and five million
undocumented Mexican migrants who are (in the United States), but we can
also say that it changes the lives of about 25 million people since five
members of each family would have the right to go there and be with a loved
one already working in the United States."

Mexico's National Population Council reports that 9.9 million Mexicans live
in the United States and that more than 7.82 million of those -- or 79
percent -- do not have U.S. citizenship. It did not break down how many had
legal residence papers, however.

The tally means that 9 percent of Mexico's population lives north of the
border. Also, the number of Mexicans in the United States is growing by
390,000 people per year, according to the council.

George W. Bush is so pro-Mexican that if you hit him with a stick, prizes would fall out of him.
He needs to be impeached.

Totally respected? Why should Americans totally respect people who are
invading our country with the aim of turning us into another Mexico?

Why doesn't Fox do that for Mexicans in Mexico? If he really cared about
Mexicans, they wouldn't need to sneak into the U.S. to make a living wage.

What a wonderful leader that Vincente Fox is. He really cares so much about
his people that he wants to make it safe for them to flee his poverty
infested, apartheid government. After all, after narco-trafficking and
sneaking terrorists across the border into the U.S., remittances from the
people who have fled his country is the number one source of cash for the
corrupt Mexican economy.

Oh boy! The gift that keeps on giving. We get 25 million more Mexicans
moving into the United States as an added bonus with this amnesty program.
That's over 6 times the population of Colorado.

They seem to have a better handle on the numbers than the Department of
Homeland Security.

That's the population of Wyoming. The number is more like 2 or 3 million,
but it is self-serving for the narco-trafficking nation of Mexico to use
artificially small numbers when they guess how many people flee Mexico each
year. But Fox and the PRI see them as veritable Viet Cong who will
eventually turn the U.S. into a Vietnam or Zimbabwe.
