Default I'm looking for help getting in the US to live and work

Hello all...

Hi my name is joanne I'm 31 years old and looking to start a new life in america, I would love to learn new skills and retrain in the business or hospitality industry, I would ideally like to move to the east coast or end up in texas on some ranch.

I'm still young and want to improve my life by shaking it up abit, I am fully aware of how hard it can be to gain employment in the US. But is there away in for myself I would like to study and work. Are there any type of apprenticeships for my age skill bracket as I'm assuming I will not be able to just apply for anything general related on a normal work visa.

Are there any UK/US based places that help brits find the right path to gain employment or education as unfortunately all I have been able to find are limited to college/uni students and 18-30 year olds

I would love to do voluntary work ie helping children/people/animals ie maybe working on farms and ranches in exchange for accommodation.

I do have some money saved to this so I'm just looking for away in now
If anyone can help I would be very grateful x

Take a look at our Wiki guide called "Pulaski's Ways" and see if any visa category fits you.

Offhand, I would say student visa or seasonal worker at the moment.

What higher education qualifications do you have?

What is your job history.

You have not mentioned anything positive other than being single.

I come from a customer service background, in bar work ive worked in cinemas too I've done voluntary work also so pretty general stuff, I would be interested in any type of work programmes too. X

Maybe develop your IT qualifications and look for a transfer from a UK employer to a US branch?

That may not be an option that is likely to be open, at least without substantial experience. My interpretation of "college education" for someone in the UK is either 6th-form college or further education, not university.

Jo, if I read it correctly, I'm afraid you're really going to struggle to be find a way to do anything more than visit the US.

You have a college education, but do you have a degree? And have you been working in that field for the past 10 years, developing your skills in that field?

I did think about finding a spouse but I thought that was not really legal way.

It's a legal way if it's a bona fide marriage...

Ok cheers guys, although I have the intention of coming to America for good reasons and would love to find love I wouldn't want someone to think that would be my only reason why I would be there.

If I was interested in seasonal work probably winter work would nice for a start, would that get me a good handle on working in the US.

The local ski resorts employ people on H2B's, but they seem mainly of Uni age.

Can not imagine they pay well. Accommodation could be an issue.

If the intent of the marriage is to circumvent US immigration rules and regulations, then it's not legal. For all other intents and purposes, however, it's perfectly fine.

It would help, but only to the extent that you'd be able to make contacts while you're in the US. By itself, it's not a long-term solution.

My understanding from previous threads (here? not sure) is that they mostly use J-1 visas these days.

Edit: Possibly that is the explanation for them mostly being of student age.

They seem locally to bring in H2b's for the season, and then use J1's for the peak.

From the limited info I have seen the J's have issue with accommodation.
