Hi everyone I recently posted about my long term partner moving to the U.S. with work. We're looking to marry but want to minimise the amount of time I have to spend in the U.S. without a job.

Firstly, (excuse me for being stupid but can't seem to find on google) what is the cost of submitting DS-160 forms and applying for an EAD work permit (I'm assuming there's costs). I'm not sure if my partner's employer would pay for mine too.

Secondly, I am happy to let my partner move to the U.S. for a few months whilst I spend a bit longer in my relatively new job. But I'm assuming I can get J-2 (spouse visa?) whilst still living in the UK. When I want to get my EAD, say I book a flight to the U.S. And apply how long does it typically take to be called for biometrics? Is it possible to apply then fly back, then say receive notice for biometrics 2-4 weeks later then fly back in for those? Sorry if these questions appear dumb but having never applied for a visa before I'm very unsure!

Everything you asked about is doable, as Rene notes. However, the cost of multiple flights across the pond may offset any UK income earned in the interim and may, in fact, leave you with less money overall than if you had simply stayed in the US after applying for the EAD.
