hostel's questions on which visa?
Hi. I'm currently a self employed gas plumbing & heating engineer with over 10 years experience in my field. What sort of visa would be applying for?
I'm thinking about trying the Florida area although I don't know how easy it would be to find employment.

Re: Best way to immigrate
With respect, that will be up to the company that wants to sponsor you for the visa. Start here. Read first... then ask questions.
All moot unless you're eligible for a visa - and that's not a decision you get to make.

Welcome to BE. I created a new thread for you.
Unfortunately, your field is not the type that lends itself to a US visa
If you have enough cash, you could look at an investment visa.

One of the investment options sounds the likely option but then you say you are looking for a job?

First you need a job offer, or a US relative (a close one), or $200k+ to invest.
So assuming you don't have US relatives or $200k lying around, you need a job offer, however to be visa eligible a job offer has to be for a job that requires a bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience - i.e. while you don't have a degree, most people doing that job do have a degree. Heating/AC technicians and plumbers in the US do not need a degree.

Hi guys
So if I was to apply for a training degree or college for a bachelor degree in air conditioning?
Is this a possibility? Or would it make more sense in applying for a job sponsor.

So really any plumbing or heating job isn't likely to result in a visa for the US, or an employer being prepared to pay thousands to sponsor you, but if you read the link again you'll hopefully get an idea of what kind of job will and other visa options.
Good luck.

The regulations define a "specialty occupation" as requiring theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge in a field of human endeavor including but not limited to biotechnology, chemistry, architecture, engineering, mathematics, physical sciences, social sciences, medicine and health, education, law, accounting, business specialties, theology, and the arts, and requiring the attainment of a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent as a minimum

At the end of the degree you still have to find an employer will to cough up $5,000+ for visa and legal fees when they could hire a US citizen "for free".

You could get such a degree, have a read of this I found via Google..

Still not the type of job that would qualify for a visa though, the OP might need to either rethink career choice, or look at somewhere like Oz or Canada where trades are more valued.

Fair enough! I'll restate: It's not an actual degree program!
The web site is put together with general snippets of information from all over and, when you do a search for degree programs, it parses an amalgam of information sufficient to make you believe that the program actually exists - whether it does or not. It's that belief that keeps your interest even while you chase a red herring! The goal is to keep you clicking on schools and programs in the hopes that the non-existent degree program you were after will give way to something that does, in fact, exist.
