I was wondering this too...... dropping out of school, but being able to stay in the US for 7 months! Some under the table working must have helped here.

Doesn't complying with the terms of the visa mean being in school/college and undertaking and completing their program?

Also doesn't D/S relate to the length of their school/college program, plus some additional time for occupational training, maybe post course? Certainly not an indefinite time.

In practical terms what would be the point of being able to stay indefinitely if one has "dropped out" as one cannot legally work.

Just asking so don't bite .....

I agree! They may be out of status for months or years, but they don't begin to accrue overstay time until they come to the attention of USCIS. So, if they happened to leave the US after several years without being noticed, they don't incur an automatic ban on returning.
