I meant on here. My visa is only valid for one year.

There are plenty of people here who don't want to either, or the novelty has worn thin.

Lot of these "I'm in Canada but I want to go to the US" threads lately.

Anyway the answer is stay in Toronto. Getting Canadian citizenship and doing TN-1 isn't really an option unless you want to be a lawyer and there isn't really any demand for British lawyers in the US. And you've got even less chance on that career path for H-1B.

No point from a career standpoint either, so much American video production is actually in Canada.

I agree with this. Toronto has a thriving film industry and serves both the Canadian and US markets. Indeed, my cousin is a film producer in Toronto.

I know many people who are working in the US on a TN. Many are in IT or nursing so I'm not sure why you think it only benefits lawyers.

I think Steve is relating his reply specifically to the OP who qualified as a lawyer in the UK. .... Otherwise I agree with you.

Because as a lawyer he would qualify for TN-1, but not as someone in video production, which are the two things he says he's qualified for.

Maybe he could spend his time in Canada while he is waiting to get citizenship, getting a media-related degree.

I work in finance, but as a data point it took me 10 years to get the experience and contacts I needed to get a job that ended up transferring me on an L1A and then applied for my GC, so it is doable, but took me a long time, changing career won't really help your cause either.

Even with a degree he wouldn't qualify for TN-1, the only TN-1 job that's even close is graphics designer. I did actually talk to a lawyer who got TN-1, the CBP guy at Pearson gave him a really hard time because he couldn't figure out how a US company would need a Canadian lawyer. Eventually he was able to explain that there is this thing called: "international trade".

For me it was, it was less about the US in general and more about NYC. It might have taken 10 years but they were not wasted. I lived in 5 different countries on 3 continents and visited a lot more over that time.
