Default B1/B2 Visa

I was granted a multiple 1 yr B1/B2 visa in late June 2013 at the US embassy in London.
My intention was to attend an annual medical conference in California mid July.

Unfortunately we had a family bereavement and I was unable to attend this conference. However I need to go to Dallas for a work related meeting in September and over the festive period I want to visit a few friends with my 8 yr old daughter.

My questions are:
1.Will I be penalized for not using my visa in the first instance for the initial purpose?
2.Will I be grilled / harassed at the Port of Entry?
3.Will this cause problems in obtaining future visas?

Thanks guys. I do not want to go through the embarrassment of being turned away.

No more or less than anyone else on a B-1/2 visa.

No.

In that case, I suggest you don't travel - because there is never a guarantee of enty, even with a visa.

No, you won't be penalised for this.

This very much depends on your individual circumstances. For example, is your B visa only valid for 12 months due to you needing a waiver of ineligibility? If so, then there's a high probability of you being placed in secondary processing at the POE. Have you ever had problems entering the USA previously?

3.Will this cause problems in obtaining future visas?
No it won't.

As Ian says, perhaps it would be better for you to avoid the USA altogether if this is a serious concern of yours.

No this is my first time going to the US. I am on an alien passport with unlimited leave to Remain in the UK. All my family ex partner and children are British. Once i qualify for my British passport in 11 months time. It will make travel less of a hassle. Unfortunately for me each time i travel I go thru the tedious process of queueing for a visa. I am a Health Proffessional.

Just because you gain a British passport does not mean you will definitely receive ESTA approval - you may still need visas.

True that is why I said it will be less of a hassle for short term non immigrant visas

Again, you may still need a B2.
