Ooooo you're right! My gosh 18mths now! Ok, well I HAVE A NEW JOB! I waited patiently, then it came out of the blue - fingers crossed it all goes ok, start offcially on Tuesday. Its at a specialist cosmetics clinic (perfect for those of us needing a bit of a free tweak)! Mark is policing the beaches and streets of Noosa - he loves it. Feels right at home as most of the cops are pom's! He's made some good friends and doesn't feel too much out of his depth!
The boys are growing so quickly! Cameron's girlfriend is flying over from the UK in a weeks time. We're all flying up to Cairns to meet for a week of R&R! Aaron is still playing various muscial instruments (guitar, sax, drums - you name it the boy can play it). Ollie has now turned 8! Had a bit of a birthday BBQ for him - he ate far too much choco cake then misbehaved for the whole of the evening! All 3 boys have very strong Queensland accents - all three don't want to return to the UK not even for a holiday.
Have various rellies coming over.......my sister Katy, Mark's old colleagues then my Aunt and Uncle!
Still haven't found a decent hairdresser!
My sister sends reg supplies of bourbon's, custard creams, prawn and cocktail crisps and of course Bisto!
The working relation laws still piss me off greatly!
I miss my good mates who I grew up with in the UK - luckily most are planning on visiting us at some stage!
Definately have stages where I feel I'm in "Life on Mars" - everytime I step outside my front door I go back 30yrs!
I'd forgotten just how cold the winters get here, and the fact Qld houses aren't rigged up for cold weather! We have fleecy PJ's and hot water bottles! We brought an oil heater but being aussie made it broke within the first 24hrs!
I get my undies from ebay - definately happy with the cost and fit!
Family send over clothes for the boys (mainly t-shirts and shorts)!
We still eat out a fair deal! With all the lovely restaurants in the area we just can't help it!!!!
The veggie patch is growing well and we're recycling water - despite living in an area where it rains almost every night!
We still make the most of the outdoors! Evening strolls on the beach! Photography is going well, more of my pics appeared in SALT magazine which was nice to see!
Sarah-J have I missed anything???????

Not long till Nov - half way through the year already!
Sue - I think Debs sent a text saying she was trying to call me......or maybe I dreamt that........
Hubby and boys LOVE VW Kombi's! They've got lots of VW stuff but haven't actually got one - yet! We've promised the boys one that they can all do up together - bit of male bonding and all that! Theres a guy in Doonan that does them up for a living - $20,000 each Kombi
Right off to Eumundi Winery for lunch and jazz! Alcohol off limits as I'm driving and detoxing!

Ok for anyone planning on spending a Sunday up at Eumundi Winery....ummm don't bother! We rolled up (me, kids, Susie and Rich) and it was a tad, well vacant really! We'd heard there was music, food and of course wine. We saw dead grapevines, a couple of old bangers and some plastic picnic tables and chairs! Ummmmmm, so we went to Treefellers instead - had some good grub, kids misbehaved as usual then we went for a stroll down to the 'everything christmas' shop! Talking/singing reindeer a tad OTT and as Susie quite rightly pointed out, why was the reindeer singing 'Sweet Home Alabama'? Right off to bed, early start!

Re: An update from the Sunshine Coast
Debs and Baz went off to one of those adult only rainforest retreats (lucky buggers) haven't heard off her since! Maybe they're still stuck up a tree with a koala for company? Be good to see you up here! Its a nice place to bring up kids. Mark says he saw Debs whilst doing a speed trap a few days ago (nope she wasn't speeding)! Will text her for you!
Any chance of letting us in on where the speed traps are?
or better still get him to lay a speed trap for the friday/saturday night hoons, surely thats easy money for the police, but they (the hoons) still turn up most
weekends to wake up my kids with their 'doughnuts'
Did you go to the car festival in Noosaville last weekend? it was great and about 500 yards from our house, nice and convenient.

We're off to Cairns this weekend! So excited! Just about to do the school run, finding it such a drag to drive from Peregian, drop kids at Eumundi then drive into Noosa. All in all only takes around 25 mins but it now means I have to get up at 6am!!! Thats just not fair!

Re: An update from the Sunshine Coast
Hehe, avoided Noosa for the car fest - went on the Friday to Lions Park so the boys could be wow'd by the porsche boxsters etc! They do frequent speed traps down Noosaville, Gympie Terrace, Noosa Pde and the Eumundi -Noosa Rd opposite the garage (dodgy looking one where they sell seafood)! The receptionist I work with complained to Mark about where she lives in Tewantin, he told her the only way to ensure they cover the area is to call up the station and complain. The only thing is where they set a speed trap has to be 'safe' for other motorists, so basically a long straight road with good visibility!

$268 of which I got $115 back from Medicare.
I think the main thing to know was I was seen immediately, sent to the best specialists on the sunny coast and had every investigation possible within the first 48hrs of it all happening. Every staff member I came across was great, they explained everything fully to me and to my poor hubby.
My mate Sarah-Jayne wanted me to put this on expats to reassure other without health insurance that when you need help, you will get it!
Aside from dealing with that life plods on, kids are all well and enjoying the warmer weather. Mark had brought himself a Yamaha motorbike and reguarly hoons it around Noosa with his mate! We both finish work at similar times and can be seen chilling out alongside the river (now that the flood waters have subsided)!
Oh and I'm now officially an Australian business owner. Not sure I can give up the day job yet but its a start in the right direction!

Re: An update from the Sunshine Coast
OMG where have you been? (aside from the UK)! Its a very diffciult decision, the UK does have a lot to offer. We found the decision to return very diffcult as we loved where we were and had good jobs etc. Something just wasn't right though. This time settling wasw so much easier, partly cos we chose the right area and partly cos we knew what to expect. No feelings of homesickness (even when hubby hadn't got a job after 10 mths - well aside from stacking shelves at Big W)!!! It really feels as if we hadn't left, just moved up the coast a bit. Our mates are mainly Aussie, but we have a few close expats too - all are great sounding boards if we ever need to talk! Our life in terms of general happiness is the same as the UK. We never came out here expecting life to be perfect, it helps that we're optimistic and just generally go with the flow.
The boys are also very laid back in their approach to life, they love living here although we have to remind them just how lucky they are. They're definately spoilt in terms of culture, but not material things!!! (no hope of that) Hope this helps if you're thinking of ping ponging! Its not as bad as it seems and it actual fact, a good aussie mate of mine told me that in her experience, those poms that stay are the ones who have ping ponged and the ones that appreciate and love not only Australia but the UK too.

Your mate needs to speak to a few more Poms
