Default First Anniversary news..

Well we reached our first year in Adelaide at the beginning of December but what with visitors from the UK and Christmas this is the first chance I've had to drop by on the forum.

After the initial tiredness and overwhelming feelings on arrival we gradually worked our way through rebuilding our lives. We now have all we need, although many of the problems are no different, still got the usual battle to find the money to get the car repaired.

We (my daughter and I) still love Adelaide as much as we did when we first got here, though our relationship with the city is very different to that when we first got here. We now have valued friendships and busy lives that more than equal those we left in the UK, with the exception of having to leave my father, two grown up children behind and a grandson. Those can't be substituted as easily, but on balance we sould not want to go back to the UK unless it was to visit family and friends.

We still see something new most days, the diversity of plants and animals (birds especially) is staggering. The open spaces, the beach and hills and the cleanliness of the environment, like the people we have found here, will never be taken for granted.

My daughter took a while to settle in to School (she is just turned 15 now), but has stuck at it and the level that she can specialise in the Arts in Year 11 is beyond anything she could have been offered in the UK. She loves the country, the School and her new friends.

My job has worked out well and I love the University where I'm based, I have now welcomed an old colleague who has now come downunder to work with us and within two weeks has decided he and his wife want to stay permanently.

So all in all a success story for New Year. For those still waiting it is worth the heartache as you can unwind for many years to come in the future..

Wishing everyone on here and those that helped us (thanks JAJ for instance) a fantastic 2007.

Congratulations on you first anniversary. It sounds like you have settled really well in life here, long may it continue

Just one thing, be careful not to let everyone know how nice Adelaide is or they'll all want to come here

I agree... let's leave them to booming Perth!! Been there too and loved it, especially the city scape over the river, absolutely stunning. Only thing that didn't appeal were the rusty trees, benches, buildings etc that you see everywhere as a result of the iron in the bore water!! Also visited Brissie and liked it, especially their winter weather (Adelaide = Brrrr, Birssie = suncream)though it felt more crowded and for us Adelaide is very much somewhere we love coming home to. Wherever we have been here we still prefer it to the UK.

Thanks all for your replies..

Claire
