Eight years! 4 hrs from Brisbane ... ie rural
Hi Guys,
Did an update last year and debated whether there's merit in another this year but when I read through my post I realised we've achieved a lot!
As some of you know, we don't do the common thing ie beach, towns and coast!
We came to Chinchilla in 2012 after nearly 7 years in rural South Australia (3 hrs from Adelaide) and we started our own business. We came to town for a specific project ... 10 mths along, that project didn't really come to fruition! Slight change of plan required, so we changed our focus, still agricultural irrigation but dealing with the farmers instead of the corporates (always the better way we'd felt from the start). We had an amazing first year of trading and having just completed our second financial year, we're feeling like we're making good progress.
We now employ 9 people, have our own shop, run a fleet of vehicles etc and have guys currently working on projects from Bundaberg to south of Toowoomba.
We bought a house at boom time in Chinchilla, which was a necessary evil but we're thankful we don't need to sell as I suspect we'd be hard pushed. When we moved to town there were only 4 houses, literally 4 houses to rent, now there's 250+ available and double that to purchase.
On the slight down side, we are still trying to sell our beach house in SA but it's been rented solidly since we left so it's not as bad as it could be.
One more term of this school year and we've nearly got two sons at High School, with the youngest being one of the Grade 6'ers that will go into Grade 7 at High School, instead of Primary. Qld, as ever, playing catch up.
They continue to thrive. The youngest has done exceptionally well at school and eats, breathes and sleeps NRL. He's played Rep footy all over the State and made Queensland State Touch trials in Mackay earlier this year. The eldest found the transition to High School a bit of a challenge, went from big fish, small pond to be the youngest at the school and a lot of class mates with way too much testosterone didn't help! Anyway by a couple of weeks into Term 2, he found his groove and a good group of mates. He too loves NRL and Touch and between the both of them, I do thousands of kms around the countryside for one sport or another #loveit
We love our life. We've an amazing group of friends. We love Qld and the climate is my absolute ideal. We love our house. Yes, we miss family, Yes, we miss UK friends but you know what, we wouldn't change a thing!

Wow- "good on yous" as they say. (My days of ferrying sports people around are long gone. Oh the joys of early morning swimming training.) Your boys sound as though they are doing really well. Best of luck to them both.
