5 Years in SE Qld
*Business still going well despite various hurdles being placed in our way. IMO retail is suffering on the Gold Coast probably because of the saturation of new shopping centres and the job uncertainty on the Coast.
*Family wise Debs and the kids went back to UK for the first time last May for a family wedding and although they had a great time seeing family and friends did not feel yearning for the old country.
Daughter left school and started at the University of Queensland and is fully embracing the student life.
*Debs & I had our first break together - a fantastic weekend in Port Douglas which I loved despite never seeing the sun.
*Had probably the best Christmas day at the beach with friends - highly recommended.
*Gold Coast - its a great place to live but it is suffering at the moment. Anecdotal evidence suggests that jobs are scarce, the housing market is stagnant and a lot of people are leaving to find work.
Carrara where we live suits us for our lifestyle - older properties on larger plots is a real bonus compared to living 2 metres away from someone as is in newer estates.
*All in all we are contented poms living the life on the Gold Coast

Re: 5 Years in SE Qld
Thanks!
Must report that retail is generally still suffering on the GC. 4 businesses in our shopping centre have closed or gone bust since Christmas. Rents are a real issue with landlords unwilling to reduce or give a holiday to businesses suffering (probably because it would set a precedent).
If anyone is on a business owner visa or looking to buy a business I would suggest that there are some fantastic bargins out there to a good negotiator.
