Been here 5 months!
Its gone really quickly........Time to reflect and see if we have meet are aims for moving here.........
Better weather
Yes this is an obvious one, much more sun, and lovely in summer although didn't expect it to be 11 degrees in our rental every morning now its winter!!!!
Sons asthma has improved with the warm weather, he really struggled in Uk winters.
Spend more time as a family
I think we are achieving this , it feels like we do. OH finishes work at 3.30 so he is defo spending more time with the kids than he did in UK.
We live in a great area really green lots of trees and wildlife. Right next to the lake, 2 hrs from Sydney, 1 hr from Port Stephens. Plan to make the most of this and go camping in the summer, something we would have NEVER considered in UK.
Live in a house with a swimming pool
Not quite managed this one
Houses cost a lot more in this area than we anticipated, for the right house in the right area. We have not managed to find a house in our price range that matches our wish list.
We have now bought a block of land on the same road that we live on now, guess we will be renting for longer than we thought, and who knows when we will get our pool
Spend more time outside/playing sport
We spend a lot of time in the great outdoors, near the lake, and going on walks. OH and 2 kids both play football, which kinda takes over the whole w/e! OH also coaches the under 7 team.
School sport is endless..... the kids have done swimming, football, handball, crosscountry and athletics oh and gymnastics. They seem to have more sports lessons and recognise the kids achievements. My 9 yr old has already been to zone for cross country, football and soon for long jump! No more non- competitive sports day for us!!!!!
Make friends.
The people we have met have been friendly and interested in us. Made a lot of friends through football and doing the canteen. So far its all superficial but am sure given time we will make some good friends. We are lucky we knew an family before we got here so we are borrowing some of their friends til we make our own
No problems for the kids they have an abundance of friends!
For only one of us to work!
Think the rose tints were on when we decided that! Well thats not going to happen! OH full time me p/t same as UK
Better place to bring up our kids
Well this is a biggy! Jury still out on that one? Advantages already written above. Disadvantages mainly not having their grandparents with them on a daily basis.
And finally The nasty surprises
I read on here about how bad the driving is but OMG scary!!!!! They drive right up your a**e, cut you up from the left when their road runs out and generally drive like idiots. In the 4 months since working at the hospital in Wyong there had been 2 deaths on the main rd outside the hospital and also the ward clerk got killed whilst driving. I am seriously scared.
We are not missing Uk at all but the guilt we have for taking are kids away from their grandparents is unbearable at times Our kids are the only grand children both sets of parents have )and OH parents said they wont ever come to visit!!!
So far we love it .......roll on the next 5 months!

Great to hear from you Caz and glad it's going well. Can you believe that Nick and Andrew arrive next Wednesday too and take over our rental!!!! Anyway, with you on the grandkids guilt - it's really my only downside to the move so far. Oh and yes, the driving is crap....

Re: Been here 5 months!
Hi Caz & Matt
Great to here you have settled OK, we thought about you over the weekend when we saw the weather in NSW, has it affected you?
We have been here 3 months now, we signed the contract for our pool last week, they start the dig on 9th July, cant wait.
We are loving it, we havent had our shipment yet, it arrived in Brissy on 25th May and customs still havent inspected it, I hope we get it later this week, the plastic plate scenario isnt funny now.
Good to hear from you.

Glad you are settling well, we thought it was great when our shipment arrived. Unfortunately some of it stored in the garage and it got wet in the storms so we have been trying to dry it today.
We had no power from fri morn to sun afternoon which wasn't good as no source of heating. so we spent a couple of days at friends. About 12 trees came down near us so our street looks like a disaster zone! Loads of flooding and stranded cars also but we were OK luckily. Our friends neighbour ended up with a tree onhis roof, still some streets near us without power.
All Drying up now just in time to go back to work
