And that, Kevin, is the real heart of it, isn't it.
We all want nice things. I know that I wouldn't mind a boat, and I would like a motorcycle, and I would quite like a Dodge Viper, but to what ends? I could go get a new car if I chose, but I see no point. I have the Buick, old but bulletproof, and the Explorer (which was my wifes car), and I see no reason to move either one on. So a new car would be a fanciful waste for me.
I got the flatscreen TV at Christmas. I had the money so I bought it. And I only got a 40" because anything larger would be too large for the room.
But again, I have also seen people arrive and spend everything as if it were a vacation they had saved hard for. They treat their lifetimes worth of work as holiday money, then realise that the 3000 sq ft house has property taxes that are sky high, and that the upkeep is more than they can handle. If I am asked, and I have been by many, I always suggest they keep a percentage of their money in the bank for a few years and get a mortgage for their home. That way, they always have a cushion and can plan around any problems.
I have my little house. It is big enough for us. It costs a lot of money but it is worth every penny to me. I have enough toys to keep me amused. My old ATV is still going despite trying to murder me. The firearms collection continues to grow. The maintenance side of that is also a growing investment. I have enough time to enjoy what I have now I am on day work, and every weekend free as well and I still have plenty to keep me amused..
So a word to the wise.. The days are no longer here- still 24 hours. Build your inventory with that in mind.

As you know Rob, I was here for a couple of years before buying my house, circumstances back in the UK dictated that, but in hindsight it was a good thing, I got exactly what I wanted, I knew exactly what I could afford and found out about all the hidden extras in that time too, I'm sure I'd have missed something if all I'd done was research and listen to the advice of others, as many others have proven over the years.
Car wise, I played that safe too, I bought an old Lincoln Town Car for a grand and it hasn't cost me a penny in 3yrs, I even kept the Love Machine, as it's affectionately known, when I bought the Charger, I have big plans for the Love Machine, a matt black paint job and a duct tape vinyl roof, going for the rat rod look
It all boils down to one thing really, bad decisions, for some of us coming to Canada was a bad decision, then they keep making bad decisions when they're here and blame everyone and everything for their ultimate demise
