im coming over in august for a holiday and hopefully a few interviews...will i be able to open an account while im there ????... and what is the maximum amount i can deposit to open the account.../...thanks

I dont think you can open a bank account without a social security number

there are some posts in this site suggesting you can open an account from the uk. i was thinking rather than open an account to the faceless internet i would open an account with a real person in front of me the internet account doesnt suggest having a social security number..

Before we came over,we opened an account with HSBC in our local town.Moved to Canada,went to the nearest HSBC branch here,opened another account which took all of ten minutes,debit cards in hand etc ,and were then able to transfer funds,$10cdn per transaction. Simple as....

cheers flat to the mat ...will open an account at my local branch too and open another when i go across in august ...why didnt i think of that before... i was going to open an account with scotia bank , so hsbc will have to do

Thats something to think about i`ll have to see about opening a hsbc account before i go and then just transfer everything over if not who is the best bank to open an account with in alberta
