You poor thing! It *might* get back above freezing for us on Tuesday.

We're supposed to get 15 inches tomorrow before the storm moves offshore. "Ocean effect snow".... Should be fun.

We had two inches overnight last night, obviously a mere warm-up for the main event tomorrow.

Oh my sainted aunt, it's maybe 5F outside right now. Maybe. And that's not with wind chill factored in, which is probably -10.

Looks like southerners are poofs on this side of the pond as well

Some are, but it doesn't worry me, I just chose not to live where winter can give you a serious pummeling. I tried to relocate to Chicago (from London) 17 years ago, and would happily have done so.

Anyhow, tonight, unsurprisingly to me at least (forecasters habitually over-forecast it seems), it still isn't snowing despite the forecast as recently as 5-6 hours ago, calling for 4"-6" of snow. The current forecast is for sleet until dawn, then a few hours of snow, but everything is so sopping wet right now that unless we get a flash freeze I can't see the snow settling in any great quantity.

If it all freezes we're gonna have a significant ice problem though, with apparently no thaw until Wednesday.

You might dodge a bullet with the snow, or you'll get 4-6" of snowfall but due to how wet everything is, only an inch or so will stick.

It's refreeze that'll be the bigger problem, as you say. Better hope the city has its salt bins filled up ...

No snow here, but about to get battered by a storm that's gonna dump some serious water apparently. The local news has been full of reports of where to get sandbags from.

Too many years in the frozen north, I guess. Working in the landscaping/snow removal business for the last 10 years, I suppose I just take it for granted that salt is on hand at the winter.

Though, salt never goes bad, it never hurts to have some stored somewhere.

Road salt is a hot commodity around here this winter.

City's are running low/out, stores are out of it and having trouble getting more in, other forms of deicers are also sold out and difficult to find.

Some city's are trucking salt in from Saskatchewan.

Vancouver even had to go as far as telling people not to take sand from the beaches as people were doing that to try and deal with the ice. If caught people face a $2,000 fine.

We awoke this morning to bright blue skies but temps were 23 degree. Nice sheen of frost on the lawn due to the rain of yesterday.

Ironically, I have a container of road salt in the trunk of my car from my last winter up north. Didn't realize that I might have need of it down here in Mississippi. And the car is equipped with heated seats which will make going out today all the nicer.

Too true

I don't like cold weather. Although by Tuesday we should be back to normal winter temps. Highs of 80 degrees expected

oh thank god!!

my french friends are posting beautiful pics of them taking part in a run this morning in the park when it was -4C. They will however, go home to well built houses, warmed by gas central heating and roaring log fires that actually throw out heat. My largest gas bill in France was 150 euros and that was when the temps went down to -17C or so for a week.

Austin is colder then part of Canada....

Southern Coastal BC houses/apartments are not built for that type of cold either, when we got down into the 20'sF last month, it was near impossible to keep the inside at a comfortable temp, and electric bill doubled.

Our apartment has a lot of drafts, had to duct tape the patio door frame outside as it's cut weird and none of the weather stripping I found filled in the gaps to make a difference, duct tape worked though.

Also had to add insulation and tape over some outlet as cold hair was coming in, and the floor is laminate wood on top of concrete that has no insulation so walking without shoes or slippers is a no go.
