Re: Windshield claim on insurance
Everyone with comprehensive coverage in BC (I know it's Canada but eh who cares.) gets coverage $200 deductible, a new windshield will not be found for $200 or less here.
Windshield claims don't count towards your good driving and claims free discounts, so claiming windshield coverage won't make one's rate go up.
Our windshield got some nice damage last winter, driving up a mountain pass with it being -17C outside, semi kicked up a small rock, went from a little star to a full length crack in about 3 minutes, watched it in action, was no possible way to prevent it in those temps in the middle of nowhere.

Re: Windshield claim on insurance
It really does depend on your insuranc xompany and/or any state laws that may make a difference.
My repair went smoothly and, even with a full guarantee, was only $60. Safelite's price? $100, so I saved nearly half AND got to support a local business!
BTW, the replacement windshield would have been $100 cheaper, too!!

Not sure if this matters but what does your windshield have embedded that might bring the cost up?
