Will cricket really take off in America?
I have just seen this article and was wondering whether there was an appetite for cricket in the USA?
Texas on tap for new U.S. Cricket stadium with help of JLL
I can't see it somehow.

I can't either. I can see rugby but not cricket. Love that soccer has taken hold in the US. At least it is a game with some thrills LOL

T20 could work, but not the longer form of the game. I do hope rugby gets a chance.

Rugby will struggle to do any better than lacrosse does.
Cricket? I can't see it taking hold myself. I know there are a few clubs dotted around NC, but it barely creates a ripple of interest.

I like Cricket, but i can't see it gaining much popularity here.
Egg chasing is here and there, especially since the US got a half decent team recently.

If the teams are in expat areas then it might have a chance to at least get a foothold.
T20 has a chance, but lets face it, first class cricket below International level is hardly a success in England, and relies on financial support from the bigger games to keep afloat. I have been the only paying observer (excluding members) at a mid week day 3 game racing towards a draw.

I played cricket for my university in the US. I was the only caucasian in the team and then the university took away our minibus.
They don't care about cricket in the US.

Is it bad I immediately thought you were referring to Cricket wireless when I saw the thread title?

No. Cricket is boring as boring can be. Even less interesting than watching paint dry. And the players all seem to be beardoes. Hate the beardo thing.

Re: Will cricket really take off in America?
Thirty years ago I played for a scratch Cayman Islands team in a six-a-side tournament in Houston that was won (if I recall correctly) by a British Embassy team from Mexico. So just now I checked on Google to see if it was still going. Instead, i found this link: Home | Houston Cricket League on Chauka.in Not many English names in view on the site, but the game does seem to be flourishing.
In about the same year another scratch team flew into Miami for a game or two with local clubs, most of whose players were West Indian expats. I once opened the batting against an aging (but still scary) Wes Hall, who was living there at the time. Virtually no spectators, but we didn't care! Here's a Google link to what's going on there. Home - Florida Southeast Cricket League
There must be others around the country - all amateur teams with no international pretensions, but anybody who likes to watch or play the game can probably find something to suit them.
