West Coast heebie jeebies
The wife and I are going to Tiki Oasis in San Diego this weekend (it's a celebration of all things Tiki themed - South Pacific WWII theater, Americanized Polynesian culture etc.)
While packing last night, we were both independently musing about North Korea (is Best Korea!) and hoping nothing goes down this weekend. (I'm sure it won't - September would be my bet.)
We gots to talking about it all, and concluded San Diego would be a potential target because of the naval base there, and the SEALs etc.
But I guess anywhere on the West Coast is a potential target.
Personally, I don't think there's much of a threat from ICBMs currently but that window is rapidly closing. Chubby Kim's a sneaky bastard. Any attack is more likely to come by way of a container ship pulling into a harbor.
People on the West Coast: is this a concern to you? Do you have a plan? Bug-out bags packed? Contingency plans for things like a big earthquake?
Pyroclastic flows frothing forth from a volcano under the La Brea tar pits (watch the chilling 1997 documentary "Volcano")? Tsunamis? Giant reptile monsters created from TepCo's release of 777.000 gallons of tritium water into the sea at the Fukushima disaster area. Meteorites. Alien invasions. Hot hail. Ming the Merciless. All life as you know it stopping instantaneously, and every molecule in your body exploding at the speed of light. Total protonic reversal.
I'm scairt. Hug me.

My Y2K plan consisted of buying a lot of water in those gallon containers, and then decamping to the mountains to ski while the apocalypse happened. Was a bit of a let-down...
Being able to flee a disaster did influence my choice of car though. I bought a diesel TDI cause I figured 98% of cars here are gas, and everyone would be queuing for gas, honking at each other, cutting in line, shooting each other etc. The supplies would soon be exhausted. Whereas I could go 700 miles on a single tank. Carry some extra diesel, and I'm halfway across the country.
These are things I think about. I have too much time on my hands.

I would never drive a Prius on principle.

With "two day shipping" you still have time to order NBC masks from Amazon.

Ha! I did buy quite a few surgical masks when SARs was a thing a few years back. I missed the Ebola boat though. When the Anthrax mailing occurred after 9/11, I found out horse antibiotics are a workable substitute for Cipro and available without prescription.

That said, any lobbing of nuclear ballistic missiles would have an asymmetrical impact on the US and Korea. ..... Per my comment on MAD above, President Kim Jong-Un seems blissfully unaware that the US has enough nuclear weapons to turn South Korea into an island and turn North Korea into a lagoon.

I'm out west. I can't say I'm too worried. Life's too short.
I'm sure Mr President is itching to put those chubby little fingers on that button anyway :-)

Little Kimmy isn't dumb enough to actually use a weapon, even against a threat as scary as Guam. It's all bargaining power - build capability, get rewards for pretending to reduce it. Unfortunately, Trump has no idea how the game is played and is making it all look more credible.
Anyone who lives on the west coast but doesn't have a disaster coping kit is just a fool. Or they have weapons and will try to murder people to get their kit, but still a fool.

Personally, I always felt NYC was a potential primary target and was glad that I lived close by and that I worked there. The end would come quickly for myself and my children and we would not have to live with radiation poisoning and slow and horrible death.
Your fear reminds me of the fears my generation had growing up in the 50's. You can't hide from death even if you are kneeling under your desk with your hands over your bowed head. All you can do is pray and kiss your arse goodbye.
