Default Trip to DC from East coast

Am taking a buddy from home to DC driving from the East coast.

Dont want to spend a fortune looking at possibly staying in a hotel in the suburbs and taking the subway as dont want to spend a fortune on parking and overpriced central hotels etc etc

Grateful any tips or advice from people who done similar thing including hotels could park and use subway etc nearby

thanks again!

Is Washington DC not considered to be the East Coast?

Yes, and there are quays and docks within the city limits of DC, so although it is not directly a coast city, it is definitely included in "the east coast", when talking about the US. .... In a similar way that London is also a port city.

Driving "from the east coast" could mean 45 minutes, from Maryland, or it could mean ten hours from Boston, or twenty hours from Miami, including stops for meals, etc.

@Jsted: we have stayed near Dulles airport and traveled in on the subway. The last time we considered it we had planned to stay near Reagan National Airport, or Alexandria, and take the subway from there.

We stayed at:
Econo Lodge Metro
6800 Lee Hwy.
Arlington, VA

We just left our car at the hotel for free and it's a short walk to the Metro. It worked well for us.

In the past my wife and I have used the airport hotels and then used the nearby park and ride into DC. The last time we used the park and ride I think it was $6 per person each way.

My very thought as soon as I saw this post LOL. As a truck driver I actually thought it must be a mistake and this was meant to be trip to the west coast LOL.
