Good things about states :

1. The beautiful Panhandle of Idaho and western Montana, and parts of Eastern Washington state.
2.Root Beer.
3.Beef Jerky ( though getting expensive).
4.Ease of doing business in general.
5.Lower sales tax compared to VAT rates in Europe.
6. Chinatown in San Francisco.
7. Weather on San Francisco Peninsula.
8. In many states very affordable housing.
9. Higher state pension.
10. Apple pie and Southern Biscuits ( both if well-made).

Ahhh but it is great. You can have breakfast foods or dinner foods in places that only serve breakfast foods before 11 am.

Or perhaps, like here in the south, they were at church services since 8 am until after 12 noon.

Thanks for the responses. It's actually pretty useful to me as it reminds me of things I'd miss.
I doubt I'd want to go back to NYC it's just where I lived that was all so know the most about.

Boston and San Francisco were my faves.

I won't go into all the details but I'm months away from a green card IF I go back but career is taking off here hence why it's a tricky choice.

As for dictating posts, just trying to avoid it descending into a 10 things I hate about America thread as seems to happen. But sure if people want to bitch go ahead.

Thanks again the genuine responses, a hundred different personal views is exactly what I'm after.

I'm with you. Can't wait for the day I can move back to the NYC area. New Yorkers are filled with friendly and helpful people, lots to do and see, and much that can be done without costing a fortune. A restaurant for every ethnic group in the world. Does it have problems and bad areas. Of course, but so does London and every city in the world.

I'm upping the tally for the pro New York.

What states have I visited:
Alaska
New York/Upper and Western parts
New Jersey
Connecticut
Rhode Island
Virginia
Massachusetts
Vermont
New Hampshire
Maine
Maryland
Delaware
Florida
North and South Carolina
Tennessee
California (San Francisco)
Washington State (Seattle)
Washington, DC (although it is not a state)
Ohio
Pennsylvania
Louisiana
Mississippi
Arizona
Nevada

Next I want to visit:

New Mexico
Utah
Colorado
Wisconsin
Michigan (Great Lake area)
Oregon

I've been to:
Canada (to often to count)
Switzerland 2
Germany 4
Netherlands 2
Belgium
Austria
France

Want to go to:

Portugal
Spain
Poland
Romania
New Zealand
Australia
Ireland

I'm feeling hungry now.

Inexpensive flights (compared to Canada anyhow) making travel doable.
Inexpensive gas making road trips doable.
Varied climates to choose from, arctic to tropical and everything in between.
Disneyland
Lots of city's to choose from if living there.
Inexpensive food.

I went to Lubbock once.

I know it's undoubtedly not representative of the whole of Texas, but it did put me off ever visiting the state again

Yep. Even the name is off putting. Sounds like something you would say to someone you didn't like.

You great Lubbock!

American tumble dryers.....so much larger than European and Asian sized dryers so you can dry duvets in them and as there is more space inside the unit, you can dry more items and they rarely need to be ironed!
