Nothing is as dangerous as dihydrogen monoxide. If you've touched it, ingested it, even stood next to a container of it, it's already too late. You will die.

And yet if you never come into contact with it at all ... it's curtains for you.

Hmmm, I have no problem with Aspartame. The one I can't tolerate is the yellow one, Splenda (sucralose). Gives me a stomachache now if I consume just a single packet. Unfortunately it's the most widely offered in my local restaurants & coffee shops, so I have to tote my own sweetener....

Years ago we were both big sugar consumers in hot drinks. Tea and coffee almost had to have the spoon able to stand up in the heaped sugar we added. One day we decided to stop adding sugar. We went totally cold turkey, we didn't want to switch to sweeteners, it was sugar or nothing. We did it, and we still do it.

And as for drinking sodas, we just don't. Our cold drinks of choice are water or water!

When I first started drinking tea seriously (eons ago!) I drank it milk only. I don't quite know why I started adding sugar. I think in uni I was seduced by demerara sugar to boost my "studying energy"... Now I'm off sugar but firmly hooked on sweetener.

Yes, I was never particularly tempted by carbonated drinks. But whenever family come to visit they seem to expect some bubbly drinks. Right now we have an elderly relative living on our premises & she's always chugging the diet Canada Dry ginger ale. It's a pain to buy, not inexpensive, takes up valuable real estate in my stuffed fridge, & the half-drunk cans are waste that offends my frugal gene.

Any time I think of people using sweetener (rather than sugar) in their tea, I'm always reminded of my granny because she would use those little sweetener tablet things that looked like tic-tacs. This was a woman who claimed that she just loved nothing more than a drop of tea. In fact, she loved that drop so much that was all she drank of it. I used to pop round to her house when my mum worked overtime on weekends from time to time, make her a pot of tea at breakfast and then check on her at lunch time. There was the full pot still sat there on her table, with the barely touched cup of cold tea next to her. Ah, Granny Barr I do miss your little quirks (but also ).

I'm quite partial to a can of ginger ale myself (though diet), but I can think of few 'round the house' pet peeves that irritate me more than half finished pop cans. Bloody savages in my house.

If our son wants to drink soda he buys it out of his earnings, thus half drunk drinks waste his money not mine. I buy cans of soda once in a blue moon, and the big bottles even less frequently. However, he usually buys the 20 ounce bottles and drinks it all, maybe because he can see what is left with a bottle which you can't with a can.
