Spaceships and astronomy

Re: Spaceships and astronomy
I think that the 78 billion light years raises some very interesting questions about the age of the universe, the speed of light, and Einstein's relativity formulae. Even with Earth in the center and 39 billion light years in every direction, that is still a massive discrepancy to the oft-reported 13 billion year age of the universe, and I learned very recently that some galaxies are known to be receding from Earth at faster than the speed of light, which just shouldn't be possible.
Somewhere in those facts I believe there are some earth-shaking revelations waiting to be discovered.

Nice software. I do sometimes wonder if cosmology is a highly elaborate internally coherent fiction.

Re: Spaceships and astronomy
All a mess of clouds down my way. Shame.
Ursid meteor shower is supposed to start up around the 17th and be at it's peak around the 22nd down my way. There isn't really much in the way of dark places to try a photo though....well there's a hill out in Bolton area, between a old farm and orchard which has a view of the Boston skyline, but I don't want to be hanging around at the side of the road.

Looked big and clear as it rose here Sat evening and set this morning, but I wasn't in the best place for pics...

Well, as usual, in Southern England, the skies did not cooperate. Anyway, whether it looks super or not often depends on where you see it (the buildings or scenery in the foreground). I did see a massive moon once in Vancouver, it was at the end of a corridor of buildings.

My friend took this outside of his front door, 30 second exposure of the Milky Way with Betelgeuse just right of centre and Orion below.
